Gratitude

It is everywhere, like a disease this word has plagued me. Everywhere I turn people are so grateful that it makes you feel sick. Either that or they are trying to spread it to you like a STD. How did this word even come to be so viral? It’s not like society is all that keen on practicing it, I mean, something is always not quite right enough. There have been plenty of examples in life where gratitude would just be the dumbest thing to source energy from. ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!’ Again, another type of disease. Does this person expect death or strength from everything? Is life really so narrow? Or does he conclude that if death passed by, that it will now somehow, give him the opposite? Life sure does broaden you, but it’s not because you missed a death, surely? Where is the pride gone? Is there no belief in karma or luck or blessings or even, just a plain old, good deed? If it is as strict as living or dying, surely our population would have become extinct before the dinosaurs caught up.

Gratitude I believe to be a sort of self-hatred. ‘It could have been worse.’ Really? Who says? So instead of dealing with a situation, you’re gonna dance because your legs didn’t fall off too when your arm did? Sure, don’t mourn too much over your loss but yikes, don’t ignore it either with gratitude. It will bite, things that aren’t let out always do. And then we get the whole ‘why does it always happen to me’? Gratitude! If you weren’t so grateful, you would have changed something to avoid it. It’s not about being positive, it’s about progress. Progress doesn’t have to be grateful, it just has to be able to move on. If that takes a protest, keep testing on.
